We've been quietly building Pixelbook for a while now, and today we're ready to talk about it properly.
What is Pixelbook?
Pixelbook is a marketplace for pixel art game assets. Not a general asset store with a pixel art section — a dedicated platform built specifically for sprites, tilesets, UI kits, VFX, and everything else that goes into making a pixel art game.
If you've ever spent hours hunting for a tileset that actually matches your game's style, or tried to figure out whether an asset's licence covers commercial use, you'll understand why we built this.
Why pixel art specifically?
Pixel art is having a genuine moment. Games like Stardew Valley, Shovel Knight, Celeste, and Undertale have shown that pixel art isn't a budget compromise — it's a deliberate and beautiful creative choice. Indie developers are increasingly choosing it because of what it is, not in spite of it.
At the same time, there are thousands of talented pixel artists creating incredible work with no good way to reach the people who'd love to use it. The existing options are either too broad, too cluttered, or too focused on 3D game assets to give pixel art the platform it deserves.
Pixelbook exists to close that gap.
Not everyone is an artist. That's fine.
Most of us who make games aren't artists. We're developers, designers, and hobbyists with strong ideas and limited ability to draw a convincing tree. For too long that meant either learning pixel art from scratch, commissioning custom art with no guarantee it would match your vision, or shipping something that looked rough.
Pixelbook is for everyone who makes things — not just game developers. Web designers, UI creators, and digital makers of all kinds are welcome. If pixel art fits what you're building, you're in the right place.
Our stance on AI
We want to be clear about this from the start: every asset on Pixelbook is made by a human.
AI image generation is changing what it means to make art, and we think that makes platforms like Pixelbook more important, not less. When you buy from a creator here, your money goes directly to a person who spent real time developing a real craft. We don't allow AI-generated assets, and we review every submission.
We're not anti-technology. But we believe there's lasting value in human-made art, and that buyers who care about where their assets come from deserve a place to find it.

What's coming
We're moving fast. Here's what's next:
